Hoffman Plaza
Hoffman Plaza is composed of 144 family apartments – single and two-story units. It is located in the northwest section of the City of Elmira. Hoffman Plaza is located just a short distance from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Ernie Davis Academy, and the offices of the Elmira City School District.
The apartments are a mixture of single-story (“bungalow”) and two-story (“rowhouse”) units. The single-story units have either one bedroom (564 s.f.) or two bedrooms (693 s.f.). The two-story units have either two bedrooms (787 s.f.) or three bedrooms (938 s.f.). There are seven apartments that have been modified for ease of use by persons with disabilities. Each dwelling unit comes equipped with a stove and refrigerator. Heating is by a natural gas, forced air furnace. Each apartment is supplied with an individual storage shed.
Residents request service and repairs from the Elmira Housing Authority maintenance department. Emergency or after-hours service calls are handled through an emergency answering service, which contacts a member of the Authority maintenance crew. Weekly garbage and refuse pickup is made through the services of a private hauler.
Hoffman Plaza is located on a route served by the Chemung County Transit System, which provides the residents with access to local employers, healthcare, and educational facilities, and retail shopping.
