George E. Bragg Towers
George E. Bragg Towers is composed of 126 apartments (primarily one-bedroom units) for qualifying applicants. It is located on the east side of the City of Elmira. Bragg Towers is located just a short distance from St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Chemung County Nursing Facility.
The apartments are primarily one-bedroom units (542 s.f.). There are sixteen apartments that have been modified for ease of use by persons with disabilities. Each dwelling unit comes equipped with a stove and refrigerator. Heating is by means of a central boiler. Bragg Towers has an in-house laundry facility for resident use.
Residents request service and repairs from the Elmira Housing Authority maintenance department. Emergency or after-hours service calls are handled through an emergency answering service, which contacts a member of the Authority maintenance crew.
Residents of Bragg Towers enjoy the services of an Elderly Service Coordinator. This individual assists individual tenants with such matters as transportation to medical appointments, paperwork, and qualifications for Medicare/Medicaid/EPIC, application for Home Health Aide service, and many other needs.
Bragg Towers is also home to one of the sites of the Chemung County Nutrition Project. This service offers tenants and nearby citizens a nutritionally balanced, healthy meal five days per week. The Project is also able to serve the needs of individuals having special needs, such as a low-sodium diet.
There is an active tenant association at Bragg Towers. The organization has monthly meetings to plan social and other activities as well as discuss issues and items of interest to all residents.
Bragg Towers is located on a route served by the Chemung County Transit System, which provides the residents with access to local employers, healthcare and educational facilities, and retail shopping.
